A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to their client before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest and most satisfying experience possible. Many doulas pursue DONA certification to enhance their skills. A postpartum doula specifically focuses on providing postpartum support during the 0-12 weeks after birth.
